Financial instruments make up almost the entirety of a financial institution’s statement of condition. Prevailing accounting and financial reporting standards, such as the Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) 9, as well as prudential banking guidelines like Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)Circular no. 1011, require the diligent accounting and transparent financial reporting of financial instruments, including a robust expected credit loss impairment provisioning.

This course aims to firm up understanding in the intricacies of the expected credit loss model for impairment of relevant financial instruments in the banking context.
