Basic Program for Banking Professionals Module 1: Good Corporate Governance: Bridging Values, Ethics, and Integrity

Description

Course Description:

This two-day course is one of the three (3) core programs under the Basic Program for Banking Professionals (BP2), designed to strengthen decision-making grounded on aligned values, ethical awareness, and integrity of banking professionals and other practitioners in the Philippine Financial System. It aims to deepen participants’ understanding of the vital connection between personal values, ethics, and integrity to achieve sound corporate governance, thereby reinforcing the role of financial institutions in upholding the safety and soundness of their organizations.

Anchored on Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) regulations and best practices in ethical banking, this course provides a structured approach to self-awareness and moral decision-making. Participants will engage in self-assessment exercises based on the “Finding Your True North” framework, case discussions on integrity issues in the practice of the profession, and practical strategies for ethical and moral decision-making. By fostering a culture of accountability and trust, this course supports BSP’s overarching mission to promote good corporate governance as a shared responsibility between the BSP and the financial institutions it supervises.

This course ensures that participants gain practical, regulatory-aligned insights into ethical practices and governance.

Course Importance:

As good corporate governance remains a cornerstone of the Philippine Financial System stability, this course endeavors to support BSP’s commitment to promoting ethical and responsible practices as a collective responsibility among supervised financial institutions. By equipping financial institution professionals with the knowledge and tools to navigate ethical dilemmas, this training fosters a culture of transparency, accountability, and integrity—critical elements in safeguarding public trust and ensuring the long-term resilience of the Philippine financial system.
