Derivatives comprise less than 1% of the Philippine Banking industry’s total assets, yet the amount of risk exposure from these instruments are huge. Derivative financial instruments are more complex than your plain vanilla securities like bonds and stock but are not as complicated as cryptocurrencies and digital assets.
This course is about the basics of derivatives. This program discusses both the theoretical aspects and practical applications of derivative financial instruments, such as forwards, futures, swaps and options, in the context of Philippine domestic capital markets, with the goal of helping banking professionals become better at what they do.
Objectives:
The program could be run as a one-day, 6-hour session, or as two-day, 3-hour session per day. At the end of the course, participants should be able to
• Explain what derivative financial instruments are, why they exist, and what are their key elements.
• Exhibit strong working knowledge of and familiarity with how the different types of derivative financial instruments work and their benefits and risks.
• Discuss the regulatory, accounting, financial reporting, risk management, and valuation aspects and concerns about derivatives.
