Course Description

The globally recognized COBIT Framework simplifies the governance process for organization and helps ensure effective enterprise governance of information and technology (I&T). Known as the master framework for enterprise I&T governance, COBIT has been updated with new information and guidance, facilitating easier, tailored implementation—strengthening COBIT’s continuing role as an important driver of innovation and business transformation. COBIT 2019 is an evolution of COBIT 5, so this newly revised governance framework contains everything you value about COBIT 5, plus many exciting new features and focus areas. This one day, instructor‐led Introduction to COBIT 2019 Training Course provides an overview of COBIT 2019. The course will provide existing practitioners and potential new COBIT users’ excellent insight into the Enterprise Governance of Information and Technology (EGIT) framework. Included in this course is a brief introduction to COBIT2019 Design Guide. This course is recommended for those new to COBIT 2019 and want to learn more about COBIT 2019 as well as those familiar with COBIT 5 and planning to implement and improve Enterprise Governance of I&T using COBIT 2019.Towards the tail end of the course, a practical workshop will be held to conduct an exercise in designing and implementing a tailored I&T Governance System.

*** It is recommended that participants to this course:

  • download and pre-read the two COBIT 2019 publications, specifically a.) COBIT® 2019 Framework: Introduction and Methodology and b.) COBIT® 2019 Framework:  Governance and Management Objectives from the ISACA website, and
  • bring their laptop in order to take active part in the exercise during the use case workshop in designing and implementing a tailored IT Governance System. The exercise can be performed individually, by pair, or by group (preferably from the same bank).

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss how IT governance and management issues affect enterprises and the importance of applying frameworks to design, establish and implement enterprise governance of I&T
  • Understand the principles in the governance of enterprise I&T and explain the differences between governance and management
  • Discuss the key concepts of COBIT 2019, including the principles, goals cascade, components (enablers), focus areas, and design factors
  • Describe the basics of how to implement COBIT 2019, including tips to do so
  • Explain the benefits of using COBIT 2019
  • Relate COBIT 2019 to BSP Circular 808
